cultural traditions.

Occurring in the beautiful fishing village of Island Harbor, located on the eastern tip of the island; this little fishing village has remained largely untouched by tourism. With colorful boats bobbing in the turquoise harbor and a fishing pier jutting out to catch schooners and fishing boats. Anguillans’ love affair with the sea is entrenched in their history when residents sailed to nearby islands to work.

Beginning in 2008, Festival del Mar has steadily grown over the years. The festival celebrates the fruits of the sea and activities that includes traditional cooking and culinary competitions, deep sea fishing competitions, swimming races, volley ball exhibitions and crab races.

The two days of live music and boat racing which is the island’s national pastime. The gastronomic aspects if the festival includes local lobster, crab, crayfish, octopus, fried fish, grilled fish of many varieties are featured prominently and Johnny cakes- a soft fried dough.

The atmosphere is relaxed and visitors are invited to wear their swimsuits in case they want to take a dip in the sea. There are also plenty of tented areas for lounging out of the sun, and domino games are played throughout the afternoons. Festival del Mar is an idyllic way to spend the Easter weekend with friends and family.
